Yas Queen!

Iconic Australian musical Priscilla: Queen of the Desert is pulling up to The Star Gold Coast this year, bringing plenty of glitz and glamour to the stage from 16 July – 7 August.

Based on the 1994 film of the same name, the show follows two drag queens, Tick and Adam, and transgender woman Bernadette as they travel across the outback in a battered tour bus named Priscilla.

Gold Coast audiences can expect plenty of sparkle in the new production presented by Matt Ward Entertainment, including a dazzling array of more than 300 costumes and 200 headdresses.

Plus, get ready to shake your groove thing, with a nonstop parade of dance-floor classics including “It’s Raining Men”, “I Will Survive”, “I Love The Nightlife”, “Finally”, to name a few.

The show will soon be casting lead roles, with a nationwide search for a transgender woman to play leading lady Bernadette Bassenger.

There is also a call out for singers, dancers and actors of any genders, communities, identities, backgrounds, sizes and races to come forward and audition for other roles.

“We can’t wait to untap some local talent! Auditions are open next week and we will be carrying out live auditions here on the Gold Coast from 17-20 March,” Producer Matt Ward told myGC.

Australia’s best known transgender individual and famed ‘Queen of the Cross’ Carlotta has already signed on to take part in a yet-to-be-disclosed role.

“Priscilla was more or less based on one of my characters because Les Girls for years went out on the road, we didn’t have the pink bus, I had 11 drag queens in a Volkswagen in those days,” Carlotta told myGC.

After hitting the stage in Mamma Mia! last year, 1029 Hot Tomato breakfast announcer Emily Jade O’Keeffe is hoping to secure a part in the production.

“I am going to audition. There is a role that I think would suit me and I would like to have a go at it,” she said.
