The British Academy Film Awards have wrapped up for 2023, with our very own Cate Blanchett winning big at the event.

The Australian continued her awards sweep, taking out the best leading actress gong for her performance in TAR.

“All of my fellow nominees the conversation with you off the screen and on the screen have been nothing short of remarkable and we know that we’re just the tip of the iceberg,” Blanchett said in her acceptance speech.

“Every year, these idiosyncratic remarkable performances just break down the myth that women experience is monolithic.”

Austin Butler also won best actor for his portrayal of the king of rock’n’roll in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic, which was filmed entirely on the Gold Coast.

The 31-year-old beat out the likes of Paul Mescal and Colin Farrell for the gong.

“This is truly extraordinary, thank you all so much,” Butler said.

“This is amazing, I’m really trying to take everything in and be really present.”
