An impressive list of finalists have been announced for this year’s Gold Coast Sports Star of the Year Award.
Nine local athletes are in the running for the prestigious title, which will be announced at the Gold Coast Sports Star Awards at RACV Royal Pines Resort on Friday 8 July.
Emma McKeon (swimming), Jean Van der Westhuyzen (canoe), Tom Green (canoe), Mat Belcher (sailing), Keegan Palmer (skateboarding), Logan Martin (BMX freestyle), Chelsea Hodges (swimming), Ali Day (surf lifesaving), and Shane van Gisbergen (motorsport) will battle it out to take out this year’s title.
The PARASPORT Star of the Year finalists have also been unveiled, with Susan Seipel (Canoe), Curtis McGrath (Canoe), Thomas Gallagher (Swimming) and Madeleine McTernan (Swimming) in the running.
Sports Gold Coast Chairman Geoff Smith urged Gold Coasters to support the awards by purchasing a table or seat.
“Sport brings so much to the city. The night is certainly to celebrate and honour our athletes, but it also brings together the threads of sport right throughout our community at all different levels,” Mr Smith told myGC.
“Acknowledging our successes and uniting the sporting community is so important to the future planning of sports projects in the city. The 53rd Gold Coast Sports Star Awards will look ahead to what we can achieve, as much as it looks back on what we’ve achieved so far.”
