Tim Tszyu’s blockbuster fight against Keith Thurman in Las Vegas has sensationally been called off after the American suffered a freak injury at training.
Thurman is believed to have picked up a biceps injury during sparring this week, forcing him to withdraw from the Sin City showpiece.
It comes just 12 days before the pair were due to battle for the WBO junior middleweight title.
“Keith Thurman has sensationally pulled out due to an injury sustained in the last 48 hours of the upcoming blockbuster against Tim Tszyu in Vegas,” a statement said.
“The former unified World Champion is believed to have ruptured a bicep in sparring late last week with confirmation in the last 24 hours that injury would force him out of the contest.”
Tszyu’s promoters No Limit Boxing are now desperately searching for a replacement, with Sebastian Fundora believed to be the front-runner.
However, it’s yet to be confirmed whether that fight will still be for Tszyu’s belt.
More to come.
