The Matildas path to the Paris 2024 Olympics shines bright after a stunning 8-0 victory over the Phillippines in Perth.
More than 59,155 fans packed Optus Stadium on Sunday to witness the Aussies run riot in their second Olympic qualifier.
Hometown hero Sam Kerr well and truly put on a show for her local fans, scoring a hat trick to notch up her 68th goal from 127 internationals.
But it was teammate Caitlin Foord who was the standout, securing her own hat-trick and playing a role in all but Kerr’s third goal, while also racking up a total of four assists.
Clare Wheeler also found the back of the net in the second half for her first international goal, while Mary Fowler was the one to open the scorecard.
“It’s amazing to play here in front of a packed crowd,” Kerr told Channel 10 after the game.
“I think everyone came out here and gave 100 per cent. We worked our butts off today, that’s for sure.”
The only dampener to Sunday’s victory was a suspected hamstring injury to Cortnee Vine, forcing her off the pitch 10 minutes after coming on.
The Matildas final Olympic qualifier match in Perth will see them take on Chinese Taipei on Wednesday 1 November.
