The cricket world is wrapping its arms around Australian captain Pat Cummins following the death of his mother overnight.

The Aussie skipper left the Australian camp in India following the second test to be by his mother Maria’s side after she was placed into palliative care.

Cricket Australia confirmed in a statement a short time ago that she sadly passed away overnight.

“We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight,” they said.

“On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends.”

It comes as day two of the fourth test gets underway, with the Australian team to wear black armbands as a mark of respect for their skipper and his family.
