Queensland has recorded another 16 COVID-related deaths, including the death of a young child, as daily case numbers rose to 9,630.

Of the 16 deaths, one was under 10, two were in their 50s, five in their 70s, three in their 80s, five in their 90s.

Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard said the child under 10 did have a medical condition.

“This child had a very serious underlying rare inherited medical condition but even so, this as a very, very sad for the parents of this child,” he said.

Six of those who passed were unvaccinated, two had one dose of the vaccine, five were double vaccinated and two had booster shots.

The status of one person is unknown.

Seven of the deaths were in aged care taking the total number in the sector in Queensland to 218.

Hospitalisations have continued their downward trend with 764 people being treated in public hospitals and another 74 in private facilities.

50 people are in intensive care including 23 who are ventilated.
