The bodies of two teenagers have been recovered from a popular South East Queensland swimming spot.

Emergency services were called to Wappa Falls at Yandina in the Sunshine Coast hinterland around 2.30pm on Sunday following reports a 17-year-old girl fell and failed to resurface.

Her friend, a 17-year-old boy, jumped into the water to try and help her, but he also failed to resurface, sparking a major search and rescue operation involving police divers.

Sadly, the body of the 17-year-old girl was pulled from the water around 3.30pm, while the boy’s body was found around 7.30pm.

Police will prepare reports for the coroner for both the girl and the boy.

Wappa Falls remains closed as investigations continue.
