A horror motor-scooter crash on Magnetic Island has left a Belgian tourist dead.
The 26-year-old woman was riding along Horseshoe Bay Road on the island off Townsville at around 3pm Friday when she smashed into a street sign.
Members of the community gave first aid before emergency services arrived, and she was rushed to the Townsville University Hospital for emergency surgery.
The woman sadly succumbed to her injuries around 9pm Friday night.
Authorities are working with DFAT to notify family in Belgium.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
