Three teenagers have had their charges upgraded to murder following the death of a 75-year-old man in Toowoomba.
Robert Brown was waiting at a taxi rank on Margaret Street on February 6, when he was allegedly pushed from behind, causing him to fall to the ground before his backpack was stolen.
He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, where he later died as a result of his injuries exactly one week later.
Mr Brown was an avid photographer who was shopping for a present before the alleged brutal attack.
Tryg Helander from the Toowoomba Photographic Society described Mr Brown as “a unique story telling photographer” with “an infectious smile that you can feel in your heart” on a Facebook post.
Three teenagers were taken into custody and initially charged with greivous bodily harm.
The 18-year-old Wilsonton man, a 17-year-old Dalby boy and a 17-year-old Harlaxton boy, have today had their charges upgraded to murder.
The 18-year-old has been remanded in custody and will re-appear in Toowoomba Magistrates on Tuesday March 28.
The 17-year-old boys have been remanded in custody and will appear in the Toowoomba Childrens Court at a later date.
Police have thanked the community for their assistance and continue to appeal to anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
