Three teenagers have been injured, one critically, after an alleged stolen car lost control and crashed into a tree in Cairns.
Police say the horror accident happened at the intersection of Barney Street and Farmer Street around 5.30 on Monday.
“A 14-year-old boy allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy in the vehicle with injuries,” Queensland Police said.
The 17-year-old suffered critical injuries, while the 13-year-old girl managed to escape with non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen who fled the scene was arrested a short distance away and taken to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police say initial investigations indicate the car was stolen from Kuranda just before 4pm on Monday.
Investigations are continuing.
