A 17-year-old boy will front court today charged over his role in a shocking stabbing rampage in Brisbane’s nightlife precinct.
Police allege the teen was part of a group of at least four men who targeted people as they were leaving Fortitude Valley in the early hours of Saturday.
Wearing masks and balaclavas, the group confronted a 21-year-old man on Constance Street, stabbing him in the abdomen.
The teen then stole the man’s gold necklace, before the victim was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Police are also probing two other linked stabbings that occurred around the same time in the Constance, Ann and Wickham Streets area.
“A group of four to five men donned masks and balaclavas and then set about, in at least one of these instances, robbing individual persons as they left licensed venues,” Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters on Sunday.
“These incidents are abhorrent; they are cowardly and indeed callous in the way that they were conducted.
“It was particularly brutal, particularly violent,” he said.
Detectives are reviewing CCTV of the area and are appealing for the other men involved to hand themselves in.
Anyone with further information or relevant vision of the incident is also being urged to contact police as investigations continue.
The 17-year-old boy has been charged with one count each of robbery with violence, grievous bodily harm and stealing.
He will appear in the Brisbane Childrens Court today.
