A 16-year-old boy has been charged over the death of a Queensland grandmother after a crash involving an allegedly stolen car in the Moreton Bay region.

A 69-year-old woman was killed after her car was struck by a blue Audi in Murrumba Downs on Thursday morning.

The Audi then collided with an unmarked Police car, injuring two officers.

The Audi was allegedly stolen from a woman at gunpoint about 15 minutes earlier.

It’s reported the teen was wanted by Police over a series of armed robberies in the area and officers were actively looking for him.

However, they insist the vehicle was not subject to a pursuit at the time.

The 16-year-old was also injured in the crash and was taken under Police guard to hospital.

He has since been charged with manslaughter, armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The teen is due to front Brisbane Children’s Court on Friday.

Police have confirmed the boy was known to them and was currently before court on other matters, but is not believed to have been on bail at the time.

They are also searching for another vehicle, believed to be an orange Holden Barina that is suspected of travelling with the teen at the time.

New Premier David Crisafulli has expressed his condolences and vowed to ensure the LNP’s tough youth crime laws will be passed before Christmas.

“The state is being tested this morning. It really is one of the most traumatic things to experience yesterday for the entire state but also for that family and the police officers caught in the crossfire,” Crisafulli told Seven
