UPDATE: A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing attack that’s left an 11-year-old girl and her 39-year-old mother fighting for their lives.
The pair suffered “multiple” stab wounds after being knifed at a home in the Ipswich suburb of Rosewood around 10.30pm on Thursday.
They were rushed to hospital, where police say they underwent surgery this morning and remain in critical conditions.
A 16-year-old boy, believed to be the son of the woman and brother of the young girl, was arrested at the property last night and has since been charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Detective Inspector David Briese confirmed another child was also present at the home at the time of the alleged attack, but was uninjured.
“There was another occupant, another child, that was present that was unharmed,” he said.
Det Insp Briese described the scene as “confronting” and praised the efforts of first responders.
“The actions of the first response officers, what I have been told, have certainly gone a long way to keeping both people located there alive,” he said.
“If not for the actions of those emergency service officers, it certainly could have been a lot worse”.
The teenage boy is due to appear in Ipswich Childrens Court.
