The starter’s gun for the State Election will officially be fired today, with just four weeks to go until we head to the polls.
Premier Steven Miles will visit Government House on Tuesday, where he will ask Governor Jeanette Young to formally dissolve the State’s first four-year fixed-term parliament.
The move will trigger a four-week state election campaign, despite both leaders having been on the hustlings for weeks.
After taking over the Labor leadership in December, Steven Miles yesterday asked for a “mandate in my own right”.
“I want four years in my own right to deliver on the kinds of policies and vision that I have for our state,” he told reporters.
“What I’m asking for on the 26th of October is a mandate in my own right, a chance to introduce the policies and vision that I have for the state”.
LNP leader David Crisafulli also made his case for why he deserves to govern for the next four years whilst speaking in Cairns.
“In 27 days’ time, Queenslanders get the chance to vote for change. To vote for a fresh start for our future,” he said.
“And the question that Queenslanders will ask themselves is, after 10 years of this government, are things better or worse when it comes to youth crime, health, housing, cost of living, and who’s got the right plans for Queensland’s future?”
Votes can start being cast from October 14, before the official election day on October 26.
