A high-profile Queensland social media influencer has been charged with deliberately poisoning her own baby girl with Police alleging she did it to increase her social media followers and gather donations.
The 34-year-old was arrested in Logan on Thursday following a lengthy Police investigation, sparked by a hospital tip-off.
Police will allege the woman deliberately gave the one-year-old girl unauthorised medicines between August and October, causing the girl to suffer medical episodes.
She is then accused of filming the sick girl and posting the videos online, before soliciting for money.
“It is also alleged that the content produced exploitation material that the child was suffering at the time and this was used to entice monetary donations from online followers,” Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said.
“There are no words to describe just how repulsive an offence of this nature are.”
“There is no excuse for hurting a child, particularly one so young that is totally dependant on adults to care for and love for them,” he said.
Police will allege the woman received around $60,000 in donations with detectives now working with GoFundMe to retrieve the money.
The woman has been charged with five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material and fraud.
She is due to front Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
