An SES volunteer has died while responding to a call for flood assistance west of Brisbane.
Four volunteers were helping a family whose home was facing inundation in Coolana on Friday night when their vehicle was swept off a road.
Three of the volunteers were rescued from the floodwaters but a fourth volunteer could not be saved.
The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating the incident.
“QFES is focussed on supporting the volunteer’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” QFES said in a statement.
Meantime a man’s body has been retrieved from floodwaters in Brisbane.
His body was discovered at Stones Corner on Friday night.
It comes as the flood crisis across the southeast intensifies with numerous emergency alerts in place.
Residents in Ipswich, Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Maryborough were placed on high alert on Friday night.
Floodwaters have begun impacting Gympie’s CBD with the Mary River expected to exceed the 1999 flood peak of 22 metres.
Major flood warnings are in place for The Mooloolah, Upper Brisbane, Stanley, Logan and Bremer Rivers as well as Laidley, Lockyer and Warrill creeks.
An emergency alert was also issued for Noosa on Saturday morning.
Some areas of the southeast are approaching rainfall totals of nearly one metre with Pomona recoding 920mm since Tuesday.
