Queensland’s peak motoring body is calling on the State Government to bring in mandatory drug testing for all crashes.
It comes after new data from RACQ found as many as 1 in 6 Queenslanders admitted to getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while under the influence of illicit substances.
The data found the worst offenders were those aged between 18 and 24.
The confronting admission has prompted the state’s peak motoring body to push for mandatory saliva testing after even minor crashes.
Over the last five years, around one in five deaths on Queensland roads have involved a drug driver.
