Counter-terrorism police have charged a Queensland teenager over a plot to attack a school.

Australian Federal Police allege the 16-year-old boy was attempting to purchase firearms online and was planning to target a school on Brisbane’s northside.

Authorities were thankfully able to foil the plot before it escalated, with the teenager intercepted by AFP officers in August after being monitored for a period of time.

The boy has been charged by the Queensland Joint Counter-Terrorism Team with one count of acts done in preparation for, or planning, terrorist acts.

Police have confirmed there is no current threat to public safety.

The investigation by the Australian Federal Police and Queensland Police is ongoing.
