QUEENSLAND has recorded its highest daily total of COVID-19 cases since January as the winter Omicron wave continues.
11,687 cases were reported across the Sunshine State in the last 24 hours, the highest total since the height of the last wave back on January 27.
There are still 1034 people being treated for the virus in hospitals across the state, while 10 people have died in the past 24 hours including one from the flu.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is urging Queenslanders to step up their mask-wearing amid the ongoing increase in case numbers.
“If you’re indoors, put on a mask,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
She also added that parents should talk to their children about wearing masks at school.
“Please take this seriously,” she said.
“And if you have not had that booster go and get that booster.”
Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Peter Aitken said there was still no intention to mandate masks but reiterated comments from the Premier that they are recommended.
“We strongly encourage mask wearing rather than mandate it,” Dr Aitken said.
“Queenslanders know to do the right thing … there’s no mandate on the agenda.
“If you’re sick stay home, that’s the best thing you can do.
“Get vaccinated, wear a mask if you can’t physically distance.”
Dr Aitken also confirmed authorities were working through new modelling to try and determine when the current wave would reach its peak, with hopes of an answer later today.
