New tourism data has revealed Queensland continues to outperform the rest of the country when it comes to tourism.
During August, 2.3 million people flocked to the sunshine state, up 21 per cent on August 2019 before the pandemic hit.
Spending also soared to a record $2.5 billion, up a whopping 64 per cent.
Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe said the results are another “terrific vote of confidence” in our tourism operators and world-class visitor experiences.
“Queensland’s tourism industry and the State Government are continuing to work closely on recovery and we’re seeing promising signs,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“Although the latest data only applies to August this year, it’s part of a wider trend that’s showing Queensland’s visitor economy outperforming every other Australian state and territory.
“Queensland tourism is bouncing back stronger than before the pandemic and that’s good news for destinations across the State.”
Interstate visitors to Queensland spent $1.34 billion, up by more than half compared with pre-Covid August 2019.
Mr Hinchliffe said the August data followed Queensland’s record $19.6 billion domestic overnight visitor spend for the year to June 2022.
“More visitors mean a stronger visitor economy and regional Queensland jobs,” he said.
