Katarina Carroll will head into work today for the final time as Queensland’s Police Commissioner.

Carroll’s contract comes to an end in July, but she confirmed at an emotional press conference last week that she would wrap up her time in the top job today.

“Since the start of the year, I’ve had candid conversations with my husband, with my children, who have been unbelievably supportive, every step of the way,” she said.

“I made this decision and was going to have the discussion about not renewing my contract with the minister in about two weeks’ time, but because of the heightened speculation and commentary, I brought these discussions forward.”

Carroll was the first ever woman to serve in the role, which she took on in 2019.

However, she has been in the spotlight in recent weeks amid a range of issues in the force including youth crime and officer morale.

The 60-year-old will be farewelled at an official piping out ceremony at Police Headquarters on Friday morning.
