A man has been left with spinal injuries after he was struck by an alleged drink-driver at Ipswich.

According to police, a blue-grey 2006 Holden Commodore was travelling along Rex Road at Eastern Heights around 7.30pm, when it struck a pedestrian.

The vehicle then fled the scene before crashing at a nearby intersection at Grange Road and Robertson Road in Raceview.

Police located the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 39-year-old Greenbank man, inside the stationary sedan.

He was arrested and charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance showing callous disregard for the needs of a person injured.

The man was also slapped with once count of driving of a motor vehicle without a driver licence, and serious assault police officer.

He is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.

The pedestrian, a 42-year-old man, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with spinal injuries.

Police are now appealing for witnesses, especially nearby residents with CCTV, or anyone with dashcam vision to come forward as investigations continue.
