LATEST @ 2.20PM | Police have confirmed a man has been shot in Brisbane after an officer was stabbed in the face.

The incident unfolded along River Terrace in Kangaroo Point around midday when police were executing a routine search warrant.

Police allege a taser was initially used on a man before a junior female officer was forced to open fire after the attacker refused to drop his weapon.

Upon arriving at the residence, officers were initially refused entry, however, four officers were eventually allowed to enter following negotiations.

“A short time later, they were confronted by a male from another unit that has entered the unit and stabbed one of our officers in the chin with a 20-centimetre serrated knife,” Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham says.

“That offender has then left that unit. He’s been confronted by police, he’s been warned, he’s filed to comply with the officer’s directions to drop that weapon.”

Police say after the shooting he immediately fell to the ground, was disarmed, and first aid was applied immediately.

Police say the officer is “deeply shocked”.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham says they have attended the unit for matters before.

“In terms of previous calls for service, we have been to this unit previously in relation to concerns around mental health,”

“We were here investigating a stabbing that is alleged to have occurred in June last year,  where the same offender stabbed a male associate in the temple,
