A man has undergone surgery after being shot several times by Police in Brisbane, just four hours after officers opened fire on a man on the Gold Coast.

Police were called to a home in Liquidamber Place in Stretton around 7pm on Sunday night.

On arrival it’s alleged they were confronted by a man armed with a large bladed weapon.

Officers called for a Police negotiator to attend the scene.

However, the 43-year-old allegedly lunged at officers who fired an unknown number of shots.

The man was rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene was established with the Ethical Standards Command investigating.
