A man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Toowoomba overnight.

Police say the sedan was travelling along East Street at Kingsthorpe around 12.30am, when it left the roadway near the intersection with North Street and hit a tree.

All four occupants of the car were entrapped in the vehicle.

The driver, a 21-year-old Wyreema man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The three passengers, aged 26, 17 and 17, were hospitalised with serious injuries.

The 26-year-old and one of the 17-year-olds were flown to hospital in Brisbane in critical conditons, while the other 17-year-old was transported to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition
