A man has died after a shocking crash on the Logan Motorway that forced the road to be closed for more than seven hours.

A car travelling east on the motorway lost control and hit a guard rail near Exit 17 at Heathwood just after 9.30pm on Thursday.

The man got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage to his car and was standing in the left-hand lane of the motorway.

A number of other vehicles were forced to take evasive action causing another crash which resulted in the man being hit.

The 33-year-old from Logan was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died a short time later.

A 37-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The Forensic Crash Unit has spent the night going over the scene with investigations continuing.
