Police have laid charges against a man over a horrific crash on the Sunshine Coast that killed a local nurse.
The 26-year-old is accused of causing the head-on collision at Burnside, near Nambour around 7.30am yesterday.
He was allegedly driving a Mercedes that had been stolen during a violent armed robbery when it collided with a 52-year-old Nambour woman’s Nissan Micra.
The 52-year-old woman suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
The man is also accused of fleeing the scene following the horror crash, but was arrested a short time later with the assistance of members of the public.
Police also allege he was driving while intoxicated and was in possession of meth.
The Caloundra West man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driver callous disregard to deceased, enter dwelling with intent, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, armed robbery, possession of shortened firearm, possession of a dangerous drug (methylamphetamine), carry loaded firearm in public, possession of a weapon whilst under the influence of liquor or a drug, possession of explosive (ammunition), possession of utensil (pipe) and disqualified driving.
He will appear via video link before the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court today.
