A man wanted over the alleged murder of a woman near Townsville has been taken into custody after allegedly opening fire on a passing car.
The body of the 44-year-old woman was discovered by a group of teenagers riding quad bikes at Bluewater on Saturday afternoon.
The Townsville woman is understood to be a mother of four.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at a business in Proserpine around 8.30pm on Sunday night.
He was taken back to Mackay, where he currently assists Police with inquiries.
Police also allege the man pointed a shotgun at a passing motorist on the Bruce Highway near Yarlboroo on Sunday morning, firing a shot into the side of the vehicle.
The female driver, who is not known to the man, was uninjured.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
