Work has come to a halt at the Cross River Rail site in Brisbane after a man plunged up to 10 metres off scaffolding.
The horrifying workplace incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at the Boggo Road station construction site in Dutton Park.
The 54-year-old worker remains in hospital fighting for life after suffering critical injuries.
Queensland Police said the man fell onto concrete, stiking a number of obstacles in the fall.
The worker had to be rescued by a crane before being rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
It’s understood he underwent emergency surgery overnight and remains in a critical condition.
The $6.3bn project is now in limbo, with all work suspended at the location.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey has issued a statement, labelling the incident as “a terrible accident”.
“This is a traumatic event for the worker, his family and fellow workers on site and my thoughts are with them,” the statement reads.
“It is also understandably distressing for workers across the project and I understand counselling services have been made available to all workers,
“This is a terrible accident. Every worker deserves to go home safely, every day.”
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has launched an investigation into the incident.
