LATEST @ 2.45 PM | Police have confirmed two people have been killed in a horror light plane crash at the Caboolture airfield, north of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to the aerodrome on McNaught Road around 10.30am on Friday following reports of a collision between two aircraft close to the ground.

Two people who were travelling in the same light plane, a man and woman in their 60s, were killed instantly.

The pilot in the other aircraft, a man in his 70s, miraculously managed to walk away relatively unscathed.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now working with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau to investigate the cause of the fatal collision.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or the movements of the aircrafts prior to the collision, to come forward.

It happened around 10.45 above the Caboolture airfield.

There are serious concerns held for the occupants of both planes.

There are unconfirmed reports at least one of the pilots has managed to get out of the wreckage.

Over a dozen emergency crews are on scene.
