Investigations are underway after an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross was found dead, tied to a tree in the Brisbane suburb of Bald Hills.

A bird watcher made the grim discovery in bushland along Wyampa Road on the morning of Sunday, August 14.

According to RSPCA Queensland, the large white and tan dog was wearing a heavy leather collar, tied to a tree with a 35mm nylon blue strap.

“Upon first inspection, it appeared the dog may have died from being tangled around the tree, but veterinary exams have confirmed the dog died from blunt force trauma to the head,” RSPCA spokesperson Emma Lagoon said.

The exams also revealed the dog may have been left like this for at least four days, and that the dog is believed to be around three to five years old, a male and otherwise healthy.

“The way the dog was tied and killed, was deliberate,” Ms Lagoon said.

“We don’t know if the owner chose to do this or if the dog is lost and belongs to someone else.

“But whatever way you look at it, it’s horrific to think that this is how this poor dog spent its final moments. There are always other options.”
