Queensland has recorded six deaths and another 4,114 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
Of those who died, two were in their sixties, one was in their seventies and three were in their eighties.
One was an aged care resident taking the total number of deaths in the state’s aged care facilities to 241.
Hospital numbers remain stable with 384 people in public hospitals and 17 in private hospitals, with 34 people in ICU.
Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard said there has been no children hospitalised with the virus in the last 24 hours.
“And no increase since the opening of schools exactly two weeks ago,” he added.
There has been a slight decline in the number of school-aged children, with 1360 positive results in kids aged between five and 17.
However, Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said she still had concerns about the low vaccination rates in children.
“We are 42.08 per cent of our five to 11 year-olds,” she said.
“We are not even at the halfway mark of our five to 11-year olds being vaccinated against Covid.
“What we know is people are still coming out to get their booster which is great – but we’re not seeing the vaccination rates in our young people that we should.”
The Health Minister also revealed the suspension on elective surgery could be lifted at the end of the month.
“Things are looking on track .. that we can lift our restrictions on elective surgery in our hospitals,” Ms D’Ath said.
“Some of our hospitals have already been bringing in some of their elective surgery online in individual cases.
“It will probably be phased in .. but we will have more to say about that in the next few days.”
