Latest @ June 9, 12.00pm Two people have been charged with murder following the grim discovery of skeletal remains at the Glasshouse Mountains.
The remains were found by two men who were four-wheel driving on a “remote forestry track” on Tuesday and were sent for further testing yesterday afternoon.
Police believe the remains are those of a 57-year-old Caboolture woman, Donna Howe – with further forensic testing still underway.
The woman was last seen by her family in late April.
Yesterday Sunshine Coast police executed a search warrant at a Balkee Drive, Caboolture where they arrested a 41-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, both from Caboolture.
The two men have both been charged with one count each of murder and misconduct with a corpse.
Police will allege both people were known to the victim.
They will appear at Caboolture Magistrates Court today.
Earlier @ June 8, 3.30pm Two men have made a grim discovery while four-wheel driving through the Glasshouse Mountains.
The duo found skeletal remains on a “remote forestry track” yesterday afternoon around midday in the Sunshine Coast region, which police have confirmed are human remains.
Sunshine Coast detectives have now launched a major investigation.
“Police have declared a crime scene and preliminary examinations indicate the remains are human,” a statement from QPS says.
“They will be sent for further scientific and forensic analysis including establishing gender.”
An Incident Centre has since been established at Maroochydore Police Station with police from the Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch, intel officers, scientific and scenes of crime officers.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
