A major crime scene has been declared in South Brisbane after a man was shot dead by police.
The man, aged in his 30s, threatened officers with a metal rod before a female senior constable and a male constable both opened fire.
It unfolded outside The Greek Club around 3.00pm, with police initially called to the scene after a nearby business reported the man had fallen through their roof and was attempting to assault people inside.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said the officers first tried to taser the man after he “rushed at them in an aggressive manner”, but the taser didn’t work and fell to the ground.
The armed man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police have closed Edmonstone Street between Russell and Melbourne streets.
A crime scene has been declared, with the road expected to remain closed for several hours.
