One of two teenagers involved in the fatal home invasion that claimed the life of Brisbane mother Emma Lovell has walked free from court.

The now 19-year-old faced Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday where he was sentenced for burglary and assault after earlier being acquitted of murder or manslaughter.

The teen was among two then 17-year-old boys who broke into a North Lakes home on Boxing Day 2022 and attacked Ms Lovell and her 43-year-old husband Lee after they confronted the pair.

Ms Lovell died after suffering stab wounds to the chest, while her husband was treated in hospital for a knife wound.

The teen who inflicted the fatal wound has been jailed for 14 years after pleading guilty to murder.

But his accomplice was yesterday released with no probation after the judge decided he had already served his time after almost two years in custody.

The ruling has sparked growing outrage amongst the community amid the state’s youth crime crisis.

As a result, the Attorney General has confirmed she will be looking into the sentencing decision.

“The heartbreaking loss of innocent mum, Emma Lovell, laid bare the horrifying realities of Queensland’s Youth Crime Crisis,” Attorney General Deb Frecklington said.

“I know this sentence will not meet community expectations; it does not meet mine.

“This is why the Making Queensland Safer Laws are the Crisafulli Government’s absolute priority.

“I will be considering all aspects of today’s sentencing and obtaining further advice about the legal options available to me.

“My thoughts are with the Lovell family”.
