Two teens have been charged following an alleged vicious assault that’s left an elderly man fighting for life.
The 75-year-old was reportedly waiting for a taxi outside a Toowoomba shopping centre around 5pm on Monday afternoon.
He was allegedly pushed from behind, causing him to fall to the ground before having his backpack stolen.
The man suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital.
A stolen car was tracked by Polair before tyre deflation devices were deployed a short time later.
Two occupants of the vehicle attempted to escape on foot before being taken into custody.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, robbery using personal violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and enter dwelling and commit.
He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Courton Tuesday.
A 16-year-old local boy has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Childrens Court on a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
