A Canungra man has been charged after allegedly driving his ute into the ocean at Bribie Island, narrowly missing swimmers.

According to police, the Nissan Patrol was seen accelerating into a deep water crossing on Ocean Beach on Saturday, forcing swimmers to quickly move out of its path.

Vision of the incident released yesterday shows people diving out of the way before the ute becomes submerged in the water.

Following a public appeal for information, a 28-year-old man from Canungra was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He’s due to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on April 7.
