UPDATE: A 45-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly ramming a stolen truck into police, pinning them to their vehicle.
The shocking incident happened just before 1.30pm at Meringadan on Wednesday.
It’s understood officers had identified a Hino truck which had been stolen along with a Hilux ute earlier in the day when they went to speak to the driver.
“Police will allege as they opened the door to the truck the driver accelerated, trapping the officers between the truck and police car before they were thrown across the bonnet and onto the road,” Queensland Police said.
A 54-year-old male detective senior constable was airlifted to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment to serious injuries and is now listed as stable.
While a 56-year-old male detective senior constable was transported locally to Saint Vincent’s Hospital for treatment to serious injuries and is also listed as stable.
The truck drove off but was soon followed by two marked police vehicles to a Goombungee waste management plant.
“It will be further alleged the truck then deliberately rammed the two vehicles causing extensive damage to them,” police said.
Two officers were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The man alleged to have been behind the wheel, a 45-year-old from Oakey, has been charged with a string of offences including two counts each of attempted murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He’s also been hit with one count each of endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, break and enter, wilful damage, evade police and possess dangerous drugs.
He will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
