A lengthy siege in Brisbane has come to an end after a man finally surrendered to police following an almost 10-hour stand-off.

The man allegedly forced his way into a home along Park Street at Spring Hill while armed with a sledgehammer around 4.30pm on Sunday.

The residents were thankfully able to flee the property, while the man barricaded himself inside a room.

Police rushed to the scene and provided the armed man with a mobile phone, which they used to negotiate with him.

After nine-and-a-half hours, the man was arrested without incident around 2am.

The 39-year-old from Bundamba has been charged with two counts of enter dwelling and commit, one count each of attempt enter dwelling with intent and possess tainted property.

He is due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
