A 21-year-old woman has died following an alleged domestic violence-related stabbing in Newcastle overnight.
Police were called to a unit on Crebert Street in Mayfield about 10.40pm, to reports a man had broken into the property.
Upon arrival, officers found the young woman lying outside her home with multiple stab wounds.
Despite desperate attempts by paramedics, the woman could not be revived.
A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody.
A crime scene has been established at the unit as investigations continue.
