A Queensland man has been extradited to NSW and charged over a crash that killed a little boy in the state’s Southern Highlands 18 years ago.

Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit applied for the extradition of a 59-year-old man after he was arrested by Queensland Police on Sunday.

The man arrived at Sydney Airport just before 10pm last night after the application was granted in Ipswich Court on Monday.

He was then taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with five offences including dangerous driving occasioning death.

The charges relate to a crash in 2004, which claimed the life of a six-year-old boy, who has now been identified as Rian Strathdee.

Rian was a back-seat passenger in a station wagon that was allegedly struck by a heavy vehicle while being driven south along the Hume Highway near Sutton Forest on 26 November, 2004.

Police will allege the man, then aged 42, was working as a truck driver at the time of the crash.
