Residents in the New South Wales Hunter region have been shaken awake by an earthquake.
The 4.6 magnitude quake struck just south of the town of Singleton around 3am, but was felt as far as Woolongong, south of Sydney.
According to Geoscience Australia, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Close to 3000 people reported feeling the tremor, with shocked residents taking to social media to share the early morning wake-up call.
“Big earthquake here in the Hunter Valley. Whole house shook,” one resident wrote.
“Brief but strong,” another commented.

The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed there was no tsunami threat to Australia as a result of the quake.
There’s also been no reports of any significant damage or injuries.
