A man has been killed after being hit by a truck and another car on a major highway on the New South Wales South Coast.

Emergency services were called to the to the Princes Highway at Falls Creek, south of Nowra, around 5am on Saturday after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a truck.

When Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived they found the man, aged in his 50s, deceased.

According to NSW Police, initial inquiries suggest the man had also being struck by a second vehicle as he lay injured on the roadway.

The car, described only a light-coloured SUV, failed to stop and police are now searching for the vehicle and the driver.

The driver of the truck initially involved in the accident was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and will be examined by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.

The northbound lanes remain closed with local traffic diversions in place.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area or delay their travel plans.
