A man has died in a tragic ski accident at Thredbo today.

Police say the 73-year-old was skiing at the popular alpine resort in NSW around 12.30pm, when he struck a pole on the edge of the ski run.

Other skiers immediately began to give the man CPR before medical staff arrived and took over.

However, despite their efforts, the man could not be revived and died at the scene.

Officers from Monaro Police District have established a crime scene and will now conduct inquiries into the incident.

Police will also prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
