A major investigation is underway following a suspected fatal drug overdose at a Sydney music festival on the weekend.

The 26-year-old died in Bankstown Hospital early Sunday morning, just hours after he took himself there saying he felt unwell following the Transmission Music Festival.

“Police were told the man, who had earlier attended the music festival, presented at the hospital just before 1.30am for a suspected drug overdose,” NSW Police said.

“Investigations into the circumstances of the man’s death are underway and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner”.

Twelve others who attended the festival were also hospitalised, with seven of those requiring intubation.

Police are probing whether it may have had anything to do with the seizure of more than 400 MDMA tablets allegedly found on party-goers at the festival.

Six men, aged between 19 and 33, have been charged with drug supply after being busted during the high-visibility police operation.

One man, aged 23, was allegedly found in possession of 253 MDMA tablets, while a 21-year-old man was allegedly caught with 149 MDMA tablets.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.

The other four men were issued Court Attendance Notices for supply prohibited drug and are due to appear in court at a later date.
