A gas fitter has been charged with manslaughter over a hospital bungle that claimed the life of a baby six years ago.
The newborn died at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in Western Sydney on July 13, 2016, after being given nitrous oxide instead of oxygen.
Following ongoing investigations, a 61-year-old man was arrested at Bankstown Police Station on Monday and charged with manslaughter by criminal negligence and cause grievous bodily harm by negligent act or omission.
Police allege the man failed to adhere to the Australia standards when certifying oxygen connections within the neonatal medical gas outlet at the hospital.
He appeared in Bankstown Local Court today, where he was released on bail to reappear in October.
