A MAN has been charged after another man was killed in a horror crash on the Far North Coast earlier this year.

A van and ute collided on the Bruxner Highway at Uralba, about 10km west of Ballina, around 2.30pm on Saturday 8 January.

Despite desperate attempts by paramedics, the driver of the ute, a 61-year-old man, died at the scene.

The driver of the van, a 27-year-old man, was initially trapped before being rescued and airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Following investigations into the crash, police today charged the 27-year-old with dangerous driving occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted bail to appear at Ballina Local Court on Thursday 14 July.
