A man has been charged and will front court today after a woman was allegedly poisoned with insecticide.
Police will allege in court that a 66-year-old woman became seriously ill after drinking a cup of tea that was prepared by a man known to her.
Officers established a special strikeforce in September after receiving reports of the alleged poisoning.
Following investigations, police attended a home in the Sydney suburb of St Andrews on Tuesday, where they arrested a 61-year-old man.
Detectives also seized a bottle of an insecticide, which has been sent for forensic examination.
The man was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with cause poison to be taken with intention to murder (DV), use poison so as to endanger life (DV), and use poison so as to inflict grievous bodily harm (DV).
He was refused bail to front court today.
