A man has been charged with allegedly causing a horror crash that killed two children in Sydney’s south.

Emergency crews were called to the suburb of Monterey just before 10pm on Friday after a Subaru Impreza slammed into a tree.

“Police will allege the driver lost control of the southbound vehicle and crossed to the incorrect side of the road before the impact,” NSW Police said.

Two boys, aged 10 and 9, were rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick where they died a short time later.

A 9-year-old girl who was another passenger in the car managed to escape with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital St George Hospital under police guard.

He has since been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death, and one count of cause bodily harm by misconduct.

The man was due to face a bedside hearing on Sunday.
